During this 3 day workshop, participants will make and take home completed small oil painting studies of the individual features of the face. We examine all aspects of the eyes, nose mouth, ears and hair. Instead of working from a model we'll be using our own faces in the mirror, each other's faces, drawings, photographs and handouts for study. Each participant will also complete his or her own chart of flesh color mixtures based on Mary's palette. Instead of the "pressure" to perform in a workshop, or to finish a portrait from life, we'll zero in on the complexities and learn to construct the individual features before having to consider the head as a whole. This way, when your are confronted with a portrait from life, you will bring to it the confidence of familiarity with the correct colors and the knowledge of the construction of the features. The workshop includes a 30-page black and white illustrated notebook. The class is limited to 17, minimum of 5 required. Classroom location: 437 North Market St., Frederick, Maryland 21701.
