This beautiful poem was sent to me by its author Daniel Armstrong. It so sensitively describes how the model feels while posing compared to how the artist feels while painting!
Portrait
She let a sigh escape
her nostrils
and pondered the artist's
eventual retiring of the brush
so she could again make music,

it had been days.....
With his brush, he stole her sigh
and applied it to
the canvas
hoping that she
would never stop
sharing the light with him,

it seemed a splinter of eternity.

If you agree that painting from life is crucial, consider joining us.
Since the fall of 2006, a group of painters has been meeting at the 5th Street classroom to draw or paint the portrait model from life. A "session" consists of one model posing in the same clothes and same position for 3 hours for 4 consecutive Tuesday afternoons.
There is no instruction or critique. All levels of experience are welcome. Artists work at their own pace, in their medium of choice.
We try to have 4 to 6 sessions per year and try to vary male, female, young and older models. Regular participants are asked to help arrange for at least one model per year.
The one-time studio fee is $40 per 4-week session. The one-time model fee is usually $11 to $17, depending on the number of participants.
Stop by some Tuesday afternoon and check out the group! Email me if you would like to visit or sign up for the next session, need directions to the studio or have questions about the group.
the next portrait session :
May 18, 25, June 1 and 8, 2010
Thanks for visiting and for respecting my copyrights to all my images.
MODELS WANTED
Would you, or a family member or friend be willing to model for our group? The pay is $132 ($11 per hour) plus some tips for just 12 hours work. The "work" is just sitting for 20 minutes, taking a break for 5-6 minutes, etc for a 3 hour class on 4 Tuesdays.
The resulting portraits are beautiful and it can be a wonderful experience and visual treat. The portraits can usually be purchased from the participating artists at excellent prices! (Arranged privately and individually with the artists - there is NO obligation to buy a portrait.)
We need male, female, young and old models. Retired people and college students and all ages in between make great models, and so do most artists, who find the process interesting! Think about it!
